Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to your swimming questions
1. At what age can my child start swimming lessons?
Children can start swimming lessons as early as 6 months old with a parent or guardian in the water. We recommend structured lessons for children from age 3 and above, when they can better follow instructions and build water confidence independently.
2. How do I know if my child is ready for swimming lessons?
Your child is ready when they show curiosity about water, can follow simple instructions, and are comfortable being near a pool. You don't need to wait until they are fearless. Lessons are designed to gently build confidence at every stage.
3. Should my child learn to swim before they can walk?
While babies can be introduced to water early through parent and child sessions, formal swimming lessons are most effective once a child can walk and follow basic directions, typically around age 3. Early water exposure builds familiarity and reduces fear later on.
4. How do I help my child overcome fear of water?
Start with shallow water play at home. Bath time is a great start! Our partner swim schools use a patient and play based approach to help children feel safe and in control. Children are never rushed or forced into the water. Trust is built step by step.
5. How many lessons does a child need before swimming independently?
Every child is different, but most children can swim short distances independently after 20 to 30 structured lessons with consistent practice. Progress depends on age, frequency of lessons, and comfort level in the water. Your child's instructor will keep you updated on their milestones throughout the journey.
1. Is it too late to learn how to swim as an adult?
Absolutely not! Adults can learn to swim at any age. In fact, many adults find it easier to follow instructions and progress quickly once they commit to regular lessons. All it takes is the right environment and a patient instructor.
2. How long does it take an adult to learn how to swim?
Most adults can learn the basics of swimming within 10 to 20 lessons, depending on their comfort level in the water and how frequently they practise. Consistency is key to building confidence and technique.
3. I am scared of water. Can I still learn to swim?
Yes, and you are not alone. Many adult learners come to us with a fear of water. Our partner swim schools use a calm, supportive approach that starts at your pace, building trust and comfort before progressing to deeper water.
4. Do I need to be fit to start swimming lessons?
Not at all. Swimming is actually one of the best low impact exercises for all fitness levels. You do not need to be athletic to start. Your fitness will naturally improve as you progress through your lessons.
5. What should I bring to my first adult swimming lesson?
You will need a well fitting swimsuit, goggles, a swim cap if you prefer, and a towel. Your partner swim school may have additional recommendations, so it is worth checking with them ahead of your first session.
